Hi, my name is Ana Rui and I’m a visual artist with more than 10 years of experience working in a creative field. Several years I worked as an architect and more recently in illustration and brand design, where I feel I can let my creative skills fully blossom.
A passionate soul with organised methods, I’m driven by turning dreams and ideas into vibrant creative visual solutions. I also love good stories – who doesn’t? – and by telling them, I hope to connect and bring people together.
An architect, a mother, an entrepreneur and a curious dreamer…These are all important parts of me that I translate into my work. With an eye for details, structured processes and a happy playful mind, I love to balance all these aspects using colour and texture to express one’s uniqueness.
Born in Portugal and based in Amsterdam, I experience every day the beauty and excitement of such a diverse world. Beauty is in connection and in the little unexpected things, so let’s make the world a happier and more connected place!

Van de combinatie word ik het meest enthousiast.
Na mijn afstuderen werkte ik als grafisch ontwerper en art director, maar na een paar jaar de verhalen van anderen te vertalen naar beeld, miste ik mijn eigen verhalen en nam ik ontslag. Langzaamaan kreeg ik steeds meer illustratie-opdrachten, totdat ik me realiseerde dat ik alweer verhalen van anderen aan het vertalen was naar beeld.
Sinds 1,5 jaar heb ik mijn kwasten en penselen weer opgepakt en schilder ik landschappen om te onderzoeken wat ’thuis’ voor mij betekent. Mijn werk verschuift steeds meer naar het autonome vlak. Tot die tijd maak ik illustraties voor boeken, tijdschriften en kranten, schrijf en teken ik strips (voor kinderen en volwassenen) en werk ik momenteel aan mijn eerste non-fictie boek.

After graduating I worked as a graphic designer and art director, but after a few years of translating other people’s stories into images, I missed telling my own stories and quit my job.
Slowly I got more and more illustration assignments, until I realized that I was again translating stories from others into images.
Since 1.5 years I have picked up my brushes and brushes again and I paint landscapes to understand what ‘home’ means to me.My work is increasingly shifting to a more autonomous field.Until then I make illustrations for books, magazines and newspapers, write and draw comics (for children and adults) and I am currently working on my first non-fiction book.
